Abstract

ABSTRACT: Diabetes mellitus is a disease in which glucose levels in the blood increase due to the body's inability to use or release insulin sufficiently. Plants from the Rosaceae family are known to have the potential as antihyperglycemics because these plants are known to contain a class of flavonoid compounds that can increase insulin sensitivity. The purpose of this literature study is to find out how the antihyperglycemic activity of several plants from the Rosaceae family and to know whats group of compounds are contained in these plants. The method used in this research is in the form of a systematic literature review. In this study, it was found that plant extracts from the Rosaceae family had an antihyperglycemic activity with several effective doses. These plants include Pyrus spp., Prunus cerasus, Potentilla chinensis, Malus toringoides, Fragaria ananassa, Fragaria nilgerrensis, Amelanchier alnifolia, and Rubus rosifolius. The antihyperglycemic activity of the extract is known to be due to the content of secondary metabolites, namely flavonoids, triterpenes, phenolic acids, ferulic acid, vanillic acid, phenylpropanoids, anthocyanins, fatty acids, and triacylglycerol (TAG).
