Abstract

ABSTRACT: In Indonesia, intestinal worms are still relatively high, especially among people with densely populated residences, poor sanitation, lack of toilets, and inadequate clean water facilities. Cucurbitaceae plants that have potential as anthelmintics are bitter melon (Momordica charantia L), yellow pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Duchesne), melon (Cucumis melo), zucchini (Cucurbita pepo), cucumber (Cucumis sativus Linn), and thummittikai (Cucumis trigonus Roxb). The purpose of this literature study was to determine the anthelmintic activity of Cucurbitaceae plants against several types of worms and to determine the class of secondary metabolites contained which have anthelmintic activity by research methods in the form of literature searches in the form of national and international journals related to anthelmintics and the Cucurbitaceae tribe. Cucurbitaceae plants that have potential as anthelmintics are bitter melon (Momordica charantia L), yellow pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata Duchesne), melon (Cucumis melo), zucchini (Cucurbita pepo), cucumber (Cucumis sativus Linn), and thummittikai (Cucumis trigonus Roxb). The result obtained showed that the six plants of the Cucurbitaceae tribe had anthelmintic activity seen from the Ascaris suum, Ascaridia galli, and Pheretima posthuma worms activity paralysis and death at a certain time. Secondary metabolites contained in six plants of the Cucurbitaceae tribe are saponins, tannins, flavonoids, glycosides, terpenoids, phenols, and alkaloids. The conclusion from this literature study is that the six plants of the Cucurbitaceae tribe have anthelmintic activity and The secondary metabolite compounds contained are saponins, tannins, flavonoids, glycosides, terpenoids, phenols, and alkaloids which have anthelmintic activity.
