Hubungan Regulasi Emosi dengan Problematic Internet Use pada Mahasiswa Pengguna Social Media
Abstract
Abstract. Internet use among college student has many negative impact due to excessive use, such as difficulty controlling when accessing the internet, feeling more comfortable to interact online, and experiencing negative physical impacts. The internet is also used as a way to resolve when experiencing negative feelings. So that indirectly college students make it a way to regulate emotions. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between cognitive reappraisal and expressive suppression emotion regulation strategies with problematic internet use for college student social media users in Bandung. Data was collected using the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (Gross, 2003) and Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale 2 (Caplan, 2010). The sampel in this study amointed to 629 college student social media users from 4 university in Bandung. The analysis was carried out with Spearman Rank statistical test, the results show that there was no relationship bertween cognitive reappraisal emotion regulation strategies and problematic internet use. And there was a strong and significant positive realtionship between expressive suppression emotion regulation startegies and problematic internet use on college student social media users in Bandung with r = 0.525.

Abstrak. Penggunaan internet di kalangan mahasiswa banyak memberikan dampak negatif akibat penggunaannya yang berlebihan, seperti kesulitan mengontrol diri ketika mengakses internet, merasa lebih nyaman untuk berinteraksi secara online, dan mengalami dampak negatif secara fisik. Internet juga digunakan sebagai salah satu cara untuk menyenangkan diri ketika mengalami perasaan negatif. Sehingga secara tidak langsung mahasiswa menjadikannya sebagai cara untuk meregulasi emosi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keeratan hubungan antara strategi regulasi emosi cognitive reappraisal dan expressive suppression dengan problematic internet use pada mahasiswa pengguna social media di Kota Bandung. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (Gross, 2003) dan Generalized Problematic Internet Use Scale 2 (Caplan, 2010). Sampel dalam penelitian ini berjumlah 629 mahasiswa pengguna social media dari 4 Perguruan Tinggi di Kota Bandung. Analisis dilakukan dengan uji statistik Rank Spearman, hasil penelitian menunjukan tidak terdapat hubungan antara strategi regulasi emosi cognitive reappraisal dengan problematic internet use dan terdapat hubungan positif yang cukup kuat dan signifikan antara strategi regulasi emosi expressive suppression dengan problematic internet use pada mahasiswa pengguna social media di Kota Bandung dengan r = 0,525.
