Abstract

Abstract. Pandemic cause changes in human life, including adolescents. These changes can affect their emotional state and have an impact on their subjective well-being (SWB). Maintaining a sense of connectedness with others or also known as social connectedness can help increase their SWB despite being in limited interaction during a pandemic. This study aims to obtain empirical data on how much social connectedness affects SWB in adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. The design of this study is quantitative causality with 400 junior high school students in Bandung aged 13-16 years old as the sample (N = 400) that was selected through accidental sampling. The instruments used in this study are the Social Coccectedness Scale-Revised (SCS-R) to measure social connectedness, Satisfaction With Life Scale (SWLS) and The Scale of Positive and Negative Experience (SPANE) to measure SWB. This study uses a simple linear regression as an analysis technique. The results showed that there is a moderate correlation between social connectedness and SWB (R = .521), and a significant effect from social connectedness to adolescents’ SWB in Bandung during the pandemic (p < .005). Social connectedness affects SWB by 27.2%, and the rest (72.8%) is influenced by the other variables that were not investigated in this study.
