Review Artikel: Aktivitas Antibakteri dari Tanaman Pare (Momordica Charantia L.)

Abstract


ABSTRACT: Bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) is a plant that is widely consumed as food. However, it has a pharmacological effect and has been widely studied, including as an antibacterial. The development of antibacterials from natural ingredients has been widely carried out to utilize natural ingredients as antibacterials. The purpose of this review article is to examine the extent to which bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) has been tested as an antibacterial and to examine compounds that act as antibacterials. This research is a literature search using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method which examines the potential of the bitter melon plant (Momordica charantia L.) as an antibacterial. Based on the results of literature searches, bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) has been shown to be able to inhibit the growth of several bacteria, namely Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Shigella dysenteriae, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Streptococcus pneumoniae , Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterococcus faecalis. Chemical compounds contained in bitter melon (Momordica charantia L.) are charantin and plumericin obtained from the isolation of the fruit and stem parts that have been tested against the bacteria Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterococcus faecalis.

ABSTRAK: Tanaman pare (Momordica charantia L.) merupakan tanaman yang banyak dikonsumsi sebagai makanan. Namun, ternyata memiliki efek farmakologi dan telah banyak diteliti, diantaranya sebagai antibakteri. Pengembangan antibakteri dari bahan alam telah banyak dilakukan untuk memanfaatkan bahan alam sebagai antibakteri. Tujuan dari review artikel ini untuk mengaji sejauh mana tanaman pare (Momordica charantia L.) telah diuji sebagai antibakteri dan mengkaji senyawa yang berperan sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini berupa penelusuran pustaka dengan metode Systematic Literature Review (SLR) yang mana mengkaji potensi tanaman pare (Momordica charantia L.) sebagai antibakteri. Berdasarkan hasil penelusuran pustaka, tanaman pare (Momordica charantia L.) telah terbukti mampu menghambat pertumbuhan beberapa bakteri yaitu Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Shigella dysenteriae, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus cereus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae dan Enterococcus faecalis. Senyawa kimia yang terkandung dalam tanaman pare (Momordica charantia L.) yaitu charantin dan plumericin diperoleh dari hasil isolasi bagian buah dan batang yang telah diuji terhadap bakteri Bacillus subtilis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa dan Enterococcus faecalis.
