Abstract

Abstract. Acne vulgaris still be problem that often occurs especially for teenagers. Acne treatment can be done in three different ways including topical treatment, systemic treatment and surgical procedure. Topical treatment is the main choice for mild and moderate acne. The development of new drug delivery systems has been carried out, including in the treatment of acne. Microemulsion gel is one of the development of drug delivery systems. This study aims to find out how the microemulsion gel preparations can be used in the treatment of acne and know how to characterize and evaluate to produce a good and stable microemulsion gel preparation. The method used is a systematic literature review (SLR) using international journals and national journal indexed SINTA (Science and Technology Index). The advantages of microemulsion gel are thermodynamically stable, clear and transparent, have a high solubility. Gel microemulsion in the treatment of acne can increase the penetration of active substances and can reduce the potential for side effects. To ensure the microemulsion gel preparation meets the requirements it is necessary to characterize and evaluate including percent transmittance, pH, viscosity and rheologycal, spreadability, measurement of globule size and polydispersity index, potential zeta test.
