Abstract

Abstract: The process of medical education has a high standard of competence to create professional and competent graduates. The most recent learning method which is effective to attain this standard of competence is Problem Based Learning. Problem Based Learning is a learning method which could enhance metacognitive skill. Metacognitive refers to learner’s automatic awareness of their own knowledge and their ability to understand, control, and manipulate their cognitive process. The aim of this research is to analyze the relationship between the duration of exposure time of PBL system and metacognitive skill at pre-clinical students of Medical Faculty Bandung Islamic University academic year 2015/2016.The design of this research was correlative analytic survey using cross sectional study method. The subjects of this research were pre-clinical students of Medical Faculty Bandung Islamic University academic year 2015/2016. Two hundred and fifty eight students completed survey by using Metacognitive Awareness Inventory (MAI) questionnaires with stratified random sampling method. The result showed that 158 (61,2%) students have moderate metacognitive skill, 100 (38,8%) students have high metacognitive skill, and no one has low metacognitive skill, this result showed that students using PBL learning method have a good metacognitive skill. Based on chi square test, it was found that p-value was 0,321 (>0,005) which means there were no differences found in the result of metacognitive score between first, second, third, and fourth grades. Thus, there were no relationships between the duration of exposure time of PBL learning method and metacognitive skill of pre-clinical students of Medical Faculty Bandung Islamic University academic year 2015/2016.
