Comparison of Knowledge and Stigma about Hiv / Aids between First and Fourth Medical Faculty Students of Islamic University of Bandung Academic Year 2016-2017

Abstract

Knowledge about HIV/AIDS infection is known to be one of the predictor to stigma. The stigma to people living with HIV/AIDS (PWLHA) is a major factor limiting public access to prevention, both formal and informal care and recent treatment. Aim of this research was to compare the level of knowledge and stigma about HIV/AIDS among first and fourth Medical Faculty students of Islamic University of Bandung Academic Year 2016-2017. Medical student will become health workers who will be responsible for the treatment and handling of patients, including PWLHA patients. This study is quantitative research with analytic observational method and cross-sectional approach. Sampling is done by proportional stratified random sampling technique with chi-square.The number of samples taken in this study are 154 students consisting of 91 of first grade students and 63 fourth grade students. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference in the proportion of knowledge levels between first and fourth grade with P value = 0.00 but in stigma level studies showed that there was no statistically significant difference in the stigma level proportion between first and fourth grade of medical faculty students of UNISBA with P value = 0,25. Conclution of this research is there was significance differences in  level of knowledge about HIV/AIDS where the fourth grade students has higher average value. However, there was no significance difference in stigma level in first and fourth grade students.
