Abstract
Abstract. Motivation is an important thing as a stimulus so that employees can show a good performance, mainly will be optimal if it leads to autonomous motivation. One of the important factors in motivating employees is leadership. Several previous studies show that transformational leadership can lead its members to have autonomous motivation because the leader tries to make empowerment to his/her employees. Therefore, this study aims to examine the influence of transformational leadership on the autonomous motivation of civil servants in X Regency Regional Government. The theories used were transformational leadership by Bass and motivation theory about self-determination by Ryan and Deci. The research method used was survey research with a population of 291 employees and samples of 168 structural officials in X Regency Regional Government. The samples were selected by disproportionate stratified random sampling technique and multiple regression analysis to examine the cause and effect. This study used a psychological scale with a measurement tool of Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ) developed by Bass and Avolio (1995) and adapted by Ancok (2012). The measurement tool of motivation used The Motivation at Work Scale (MWMS) (Gagné et al., 2015) and was translated and modified by one of Indiyastuti research teams (Gagné et al. (2015). The results of the study show that transformational leadership has a significant positive influence on the autonomous motivation of (r = 0.489) or 48.9% on structural officials in X Regency Regional Government..
