Abstract. Students who are studying at the college level of education can be more susceptible to stress than students who are at the lower level of education. High stress levels can cause students have experiences of depression and prevent students from graduating on time. Therefore, it is important to examine a characteristic that can foster strength in students so that they have obstacles and difficulties in academics. Grit was introduced by Duckworth as a characteristic that can make individuals to keep an effort although they have an experience in many obstacles and difficulties in achieving goals. This study aims to examine the relationship between grit (tenacity) and problem focused coping on psychology students from the 2017 generation at University X in Bandung. Research data is obtained from the s-grit scale (Duckworth Quinn, 2009) and problem focused coping (Lazarus, 1986) are distributed to 115 psychology students who are taking enrichment courses, seminars, and research methodologies. This research uses correlational quantitative method and uses simple random sampling technique. Data analysis uses rank spearman correlation test. The result shows that there is a significant positive correlation between grit and problem focus coping with a correlation coefficient of 0.501. That is, the higher the grit, the higher the problem focus coping.
