The correlation between work climate and work commitment on honorary teachers in SMK BPP (vocational high school) Bandung.

Abstract


A school is an institution designed to teaching students under teacher’s control. A school is a means created to implement education. There is work climate in the school that the honorary teachers obtain salary below government’s standards (UMR). However, they remain teaching students there. The objective of this study is to describe the correlation between work climate and work commitment on honorary teachers in SMK Balai Perguruan Putri (SMK BPP) Bandung. Work climate is internal environment of an organization considered by its members and workers whose certain characteristics are different from others. According to Meyer, Allen & Smith (1997: 11) that commitment considered as reflection of affective orientation to the organization,  consideration about profit and lost when they leave the organization, and moral consideration to stand fast in the organization. The method used is correlation with 36 honorary teachers as the sample of the research population in the school. The instrument used in data collection is Climate Surveys questionnaire (CSQ) of George H. Litwin and Herber H. Meyer. And work commitment instrument of Affective measurement, continuance, and normative commitment of Allen & Meyer. The results calculated by using Spearman Rank correlation show that there is a high/average positive correlation between work climate and work commitment, that is (r – 0,561). It means that the higher the work climate of honorary teachers, the higher their work commitment.
