Pengaruh FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) Terhadap Adiksi Media Sosial Instagram Pada Wanita Emerging Adulthood

Abstract


Abstract— Behavioral phenomenon that indicates a tendency towards Instagram addiction has been found on female emerging adulthood in Bandung. Some of them feel the urge to keep opening their Instagram and neglecting their work. One of the causes that can lead someone to addiction is because of the fear of missing out or FOMO. The purpose of this study was to obtain empirical data on the effect of FOMO on social media Instagram addiction on female emerging adulthood in Bandung. This study is conducted with a quantitative approach using simple linear regression analysis method on 284 people through purposive sampling. The measuring instrument used is the FOMO scale adapted from the Fear of Missing Out Scale (Przybylski, Murayama, DeHaan and Gladwell, 2013) and the social media addiction scale adapted from the Social Media Disorder Scale (Van den Eijnden, Lemmens and Valkenburg, 2016). The results of this study shows that there is a significant effect between FOMO (fear of missing out) and social media Instagram addiction on female emerging adulthood in Bandung with the value of Sig. 0.000 and the FOMO variable contributed 34.1% to the social media addiction variable.

Abstrak— Ditemukan fenomena perilaku yang mengindikasikan kecenderungan adiksi media sosial Instagram pada wanita emerging adulthood di Bandung.Diantaranya merasakan dorongan untuk terus membuka Instagram hingga mengabaikan pekerjaannya. Salah satu penyebab seseorang menjadi adiksi adalah perilaku takut ketertinggalan atau FOMO (fear of missing out). Tujuan penelitian ini untuk memperoleh data empiris mengenai pengaruh FOMO terhadap adiksi media sosial Instagram pada wanita emerging adulthood di Bandung. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan pendekatan kuantitatif, metode analisis regresi linier sederhana pada sample penelitian sebanyak 284 orang melalui purposive sampling. Menggunakan skala FOMO yang diadaptasi dari Fear of Missing Out Scale (Przybylski, Murayama, DeHaan dan Gladwell, 2013) dan skala adiksi media sosial yang diadaptasi dari Social Media Disorder Scale (Van den Eijnden, Lemmens dan Valkenburg, 2016). Data yang diperoleh menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan antara FOMO (fear of missing out) dengan adiksi media sosial Instagram pada wanita emerging adulthood di Bandung dengan nilai Sig. 0,000 dan variabel FOMO memberikan sumbangan pengaruh terhadap variabel adiksi media sosial sebesar 34.1%.
