Representasi Eksploitasi Alam dalam Film Avatar

Abstract


Movies are the one of media communication and most of all have aims to entertainment focus. Science fiction is the most favorite genre in the movies and it is cause the implicit message bring us to feel the tension, mistery, advantures, and the flow of unusual story telling. And it bring researcher to had focus analysis on Avatar movies who has the same genre also produced by 20th Century and James Cameron as a film director. The topic on the Avatar movie who has duration approximately 160 minutes is show how people of Na’Vi in Pandora land maintain they right and protect they people from the exploitation of nature resources by strangers. The title of this research is “Representation Exploitation of Natural Resources in the movie Avatarâ€. In entertainment media, especially in this case of that, researcher had to analyze every scene with the theory of television by John Fiske, and also doing the interview with some of communities who have concern in environment attention (WWF) and movies community called film Sekte Gotong Royong. The result of interviewing as a part to increased insight of researcher analysis also. The research plan is to use the qualitative method with semiotic approach, which is a method than can be use to analising life signs. Semiotic (or semiology in Latin) basicly learn how humanity interpret many things that going through in this world. An interpretation means every objects not just bring an information, but figure it out deeper the way how that objects usually communicate with us. And then, every elements in exploitation of nature resources analize by reality level based on appreance code, behavior, expression, and dialogue. Also the level of representation by camera code and ideology that combine two levels previous that can image the result of reserarcher point of view about impression and capitalism strategy. In the end this research has a result that shows every scene on that movie as the visual focused an exploitation on nature resource in an ideology of capitalism way. It shown in how this movie describe how a strangers can take over of forest land in to a mining areas.
