The Relationship of Physical Activity and Dietary Diversity with Nutritional Status
Abstract
Physical activity is the body movement produced by skeletal muscles that require energy expenditure. Dietary diversity is a variety of foods, good sources of carbohydrates, proteins, fats and vitamins and minerals, which when consumed in equal quantities can produce the nutritional adequacy. Physical activity and dietary diversity are factors that can affect nutritional status. Imbalances of physical activity and dietary diversity can lead to unoptimal nutrition and poor health. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of physical activity and dietary diversity with nutritional status. This study used analytic observational method with cross sectional study design to know about the relationship of physical activity and dietary diversity with nutritional status. Physical Activity’s data obtained from the International Physical Activity Quetionaire (IPAQ) questionnaire, dietary diversity’s data was obtained from the Individual Dietary diversity score and nutritional status calculated by BMI in the student population of the Faculty Medicine of Islamic University Bandung class of 2015. Using hypothesis test two proportions obtained results 90 respondents, data were processed using chi square test. The results showed that there was no relationship between physical activity with nutritional status with p-value 0.231. Similarly with dietary diversity there was no relationship with nutritional status with a p-value of 0.192.
