Abstract

Abstract: Liver injury is one of the major health problems in the world, including in Indonesia. Synthetic drugs that are currently available to treat disease caused by liver injury is actually a one of the cause that can further damage to the liver function which is shown by the changes in the levels of SGOT and SGPT enzymes. This is one of the reasons why people turn to the alternative treatments using some traditional herbal medicine. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of soursop leaf extract (Annona muricata) to the levels of SGOT and SGPT enzymes in mice models of liver injury. This research was an in vivo experimental with a complete randomized design. The study was conducted on DDY mice that were divided into five groups, the positive control group (normal), the negative control group (CCl4 0.00056 ml/grBB) and three treatment groups treated with soursop leaf extract dose of 0.36 mg/grBB; 0.72 mg/grBB and 1.44 mg/grBB previously induced CCl4 0.00056 ml/grBB for 14 days. All treatments were given orally. Prior to the research, the mice were adapted for seven days. The administration of soursop leaf extract conducted for nine days. After completing the treatment, the mice’s blood was taken to be examined for the levels of SGOT and SGPT enzymes. The result showed that there were no significant differences between the levels of SGOT and SGPT enzymes in the treatment group compared the positive and negative control group. The conclusion showed that the soursop leaf extract (Annona muricata) in the concentrations 0,36-1,44 mg/grBB can not affect the levels of SGOT and SGPT enzymes in the mice that have been induced by CCl4.
