Abstract

Abstract. The use of antibiotics becoming less effective because for cases of resistance. Many researchers are looking for alternatives antibacteria. Dates, one of widely known for being rich in polyphenol compounds, makes dates an alternative to herbal antibiotics. One of the bacterial infectious diseases often found in Indonesia is Shigellosis which is caused by Shigella dysenteriae. This study aims to determine the antibacterial power of Ajwa Dates (Phoenix dactylifera) on the growth of Shigella dysenteriae. The method used is an in vitro experimental laboratory. Antibacterial test is done by the diffusion method. Test material in the form of Ajwa Dates (Phoenix dactylifera) at a concentration of 100% with positive control is ciprofloxacin. The antibacterial power test was done by the Kirby-Bauer diffusion method in Mueller-Hinton Agar. The results of this study is that no inhibition zone was formed in the diffusion method sensitivity test. The conclusion of the study showed that the Ajwa date palm did not have the antibacterial power against Shigella dysenteriae.
