Abstract

Abstract. Erectile dysfunction is the inability to have or maintain an erection for at least the past 6 months. Erectile dysfunction associated with various factors such as increasing age, hypertension, diabetes, dyslipidemia, and smoking. The prevalence in Indonesia at the age of 40-80 years is 28%. Erectile dysfunction can cause depression and interfere with the quality of life. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship duration of type 2 diabetes mellitus (type 2 DM) and hypertension to the incidence of erectile dysfunction based on IIEF-5 scores at the RSUD Al-ihsan in October–September 2019. This research is a analytic study with retrospective cohort design and be analyzed by Chi-square test using SPSS. Data collected in the form of questionnaire data and medical record. The results showed a between the duration of type 2 DM and erectile dysfunction have a p-value = 0,000, and hypertension have p-value=0,000. Type 2 DM and hypertension can cause erectile dysfunction by reducing the effect of nitric oxide, resulting in impaired relaxation of the blood vessels in the corpora cavernosum. Conclusion: there is a relationship between the duration of type 2 DM and hypertension to the incidence of erectile dysfunction in patients with type 2 DM in adulthood and elderly.
