Abstract

Abstract. Balance is the process of maintaining the center of gravity on the supporting base of the body and requires constant adjustment which is influenced by muscle activity and joint position. Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple index of weight based on height commonly used to classify body weight in adults. Accumulation of adipose tissue and increased body mass can cause a decrease in body balance and can cause biomechanical failure of muscle response and loss of stability mechanisms. This study was conducted to determine the relationship of nutritional status with postural balance in male and female students of the Faculty of Medicine, Bandung Islamic University in the period 2018. The design of this study used an observational analytic research method with a cross-sectional post-test design approach. The method of sampling in this study is in the form of stratified random sampling. The results showed that the correlation between BMI with postural balance in male subjects x ± 18.4-45.9 kg / m2 and x ± 16-115 seconds (p = -0.20), in female subjects x ± 18 - 35.1 kg / m2 and x ± 15-97 seconds (p = -0.416), and in total subjects x ± 18.4-45.9 kg / m2 and x ± 15-115 seconds (p = -0,298). This study investigates the relationship between nutritional status and postural balance, which corroborates the results of previous studies that state the relationship between nutritional status and postural balance
