Abstract

Abstract. Non-communicable diseases are a common problem in Indonesia. According to the Ministry of Health, the proportion of non-infectious disease mortality is increasing every year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) by 2015, 70% of deaths in Indonesia are caused by non-communicable diseases, especially metabolic diseases. One of risk factor for non-communicable diseases is the lack of exercise and consumption of high-fat diet. Muscle mass and fat mass are influenced by gender, nutritional intake, physical activity, and age. The purpose of this study was to determine the percentage of muscle mass and total body fat mass in individuals with various body mass index status (BMI). The method used in this study is descriptive. The data were primary data by measuring BMI, while for the percentage of total muscle mass and the percentage of total body fat obtained by measuring used Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA). The results showed that the total of 194 subjects found that most subjects had a normal body fat percentage of 124 people (63.91%) and the least had a very high body fat of 12 people (6.20%) . As for the percentage of muscle mass, most subjects had normal muscle mass of 142 people (73.19%) and the least were subjects with high and very high muscle mass of 1 person (0.51%).
