Alternative Media Frame of Jakartabeat.Net on the Conditions of Indonesian Indie Music

Abstract


It cannot be denied that the movement of indie music culture in Indonesia is growing rapidly. This indication can be seen from the increasing number of indie musicians. In addition, music concerts, which present performances of indie bands, never lost its spectators. However, behind this hegemony, indie music culture in Indonesia has various quite crucial problems. Unfortunately, the problem is often not realized by the instigators of the indie music themselves. Various kinds of problems are described in depth in several articles about indie music in the alternative media, Jakartabeat.net. Therefore, this study analyzed the framing done by the alternative media Jakartabeat.net in describing indie music conditions in Indonesia today. This study aims to determine the current condition of indie music in Indonesia in the frame of the alternative media, Jakartabeat.net. Through qualitative research methods with the approach of framing analysis, this study used the model of Gamson and Modigliani to find frame used by the authors of Jakartabeat.net in describing the condition of Indonesian indie music. This series of articles was entitled "Series of Discussions About Indie Music in Jakartabeat.net". With the Gamson model, this study analyzed the framing devices and the reasoning devices.
