Hubungan Antara Dukungan Sosial dengan Penyesuaian Diri di Perguruan Tinggi

Abstract. Self adjustment is considered important for freshmen. If they are not able to adapt to the new learning environment, it would raise the potential of conflicts, not only in the scope of academic area, but also the non-academic area. Students naturally require the cooperation and assistance of others related to their college adjustment. The assistance itself could be in a form of social support. This research aims to determine the relationship between social support and college adjustment. 134 Unisba’s freshmen of Psychology faculty (academic year 2015) were taken as the research’s subject. The data of this research were obtained using a questionnaire of social support as the translated version of Social Support Questionnaire (SSQ), compiled by Sarason, Levine, Basham, and Sarason (1983), and a questionnaire of college adjustment as the translated version of SACQ, compiled by Baker & Siryk (1984). The data processing was conducted using the Rank Spearman correlation method. According to the result, there is a positive relationship between Perceived Availabity of Social Support as an aspect of social support,and college adjustment (rs = 0.225); and there is a positive relationship between Satisfaction with Social Support as an aspect of social support,and college adjustment ( rs = 0.295). Based on these results, the higher social support leads to the higher ability of college adjustment.


Abstrak. Penyesuaian diri merupakan hal yang penting bagi mahasiswa baru, bila mahasiswa tidak mampu menyesuaikan diri dengan lingkungan belajarnya yang baru akan mengalami potensi terjadinya banyak konflik dan fokus yang dihadapi bukan hanya masalah akademik, tetapi juga masalah lain di luar akademik. Mahasiswa membutuhkan kerjasama dan bantuan orang lain dalam penyesuaian dirinya di lingkungan perguruan tinggi. Bentuk bantuan yang diberikan dapat berupa dukungan sosial. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara dukungan sosial dengan penyesuaian diri di perguruan tinggi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 134 mahasiswa baru Fakultas Psikologi Unisba angkatan 2015. Data penelitian diperoleh dengan menggunakan kuesioner dukungan sosial yang ditranslasi dari Social Support Questionnaire (SSQ), yang disusun oleh Sarason, Levine, Basham dan Sarason (1983), serta kuesioner penyesuaian diri di perguruan tinggi yang ditranslasi dari SACQ dari Baker & Siryk (1984). Pengolahan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan teknik korelasi Rank Spearman. Berdasarkan hasil pengolahan data, terdapat hubungan positif antara dukungan sosial aspek Perceived Availabity of Social Support dengan penyesuaian diri di perguruan tinggi (rs = 0.225), serta terdapat hubungan positif antara dukungan sosial aspek Satisfaction with Social Support dengan penyesuaian diri di perguruan tinggi (rs = 0.295). Berdasarkan hasil tersebut maka semakin tinggi dukungan sosial yang didapat, semakin baik juga kemampuan penyesuaian diri di perguruan tingginya.
