Abstract

Abstract. Skateboarding as an extreme sport, contains a high risk of injuries. Still, there are 12 skateboarders in Pasopati Under The Bridge Community Bandung who have been active in skateboarding more than 4 years and have been injured, both minor, and major. Injuries and frustration that they felt when they cannot master the tricks didn't make them quit skateboarding even though many of their friends quit skateboarding because of it. These 12 skateboarders feel that skateboarding is challenging, but they feel that they have ability to overcome those challenges. They also feel that time seems altered when they are doing this skateboarding activity. They also feel that skateboarding activity give them a great pleasure. Things that they describe about skateboarding indicating the flow experience. Flow experience is a condition where individual really focused in their activity so that they can "dissolved" in it. This flowexperience consists of 9 dimension, challenge-skill balance, action-awareness merging, clear goals, unambiguous feedback, concentration on the task at hand, sense of control, loss of self-consciousness, transformation of time, and autotelic experience. This flow experience can make skateboarder happier. by experiencing flow, their skill can also improved. This research used descriptive study method with 12 skateboarders as a subject. The measuring instrument used in this research is Flow State Scale. 11 of 12 subjects in this research experienced flow. 7 of those 11 experienced intense flow experience by experiencing all of 9 dimensions, the other 4 experienced flow by experiencing 8 of 9 dimensions, and the other 1 experienced worry by experiencing 4 of 9 dimensions. Dimension that experienced by all of the subjects are clear goals, unambiguous feedback, and transformation of time. From this research, the suggestion that can be given to the subjects is to make them experiencing flow, they have to start the activity by doing the tricks that match their skills, and then increase the challenge gradually along with the improvement of their skills. Furthermore they have to concentrate on their activity to feel all of the 9 dimensions.

Pengalaman flow ini terdiri dari 9 dimensi, challenge-skill balance, action-awareness merging, clear goals, unambiguous feedback, concentration on the task at hand, sense of control, loss of self-consciousness, transformation of time, dan autotelic experience.
