Correlation between social support and Self Esteem on Andikpas in Lembaga Pembinaan khusus Anak (LPKA) of class II Bandung.
Abstract
This article is a research result of correlation between social support and Self Esteem on Andikpas in Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak (LPKA) of class II Bandung. This institution specially intent to improve self confidence, selfesteem, and optimistic attitude for the future. Some children prisoners (andikpas) believe that they are better individuals, and yet some believe that they are not. Their belief about themselves are related to obtained support from their parents, officers and friends in LPKA. The objective of the study is describe the correlation between Social Support and Self Esteem on children prisoners (Andikpas) in Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak (LPKA) Kelas II Bandung. this is a correlational study with 128 children prisoners (andikpas). The instrument of social support generated from Sarafino (1994) and Self Esteem generated from Coopersmith (1967). The results show that there is a high positive correlation between Social Support and Self Esteem on children prisoners in Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak (LPKA) of class II Bandung and it is about 0,69. Social support aspects are Emotional Support, Esteem Support, Instrumental Support and Informational Support  and have high correlation with Self Esteem in each in about 0,614; 0,615; 0,645; 0,654. Network Support has high correlation with Self Esteem in about 0,556.
