Abstract

Abstract. The current Covid-19 pandemic has resulted in the closure of educational institutions.  This requires a change in face-to-face learning methods to distance learning which causes students to experience academic stress.  The stress felt by students has an impact on student involvement which results in decreased learning motivation during the learning process, such as lack of concentration in learning, lack of understanding of the material, piling up tasks, and lack of interaction with lecturers and peers.  Therefore, to cope with academic stress and increase student engagement during distance learning students need resilience.  Resilience is an individual's ability to be able to cope with stress and can predict student engagement.  The resilience of each student is different so this study was conducted to determine the effect of resilience on college student engagement during distance learning the Covid-19 pandemic.  This study uses a quantitative approach with non-experimental causality, where the participants are college students in the city of Bandung found 440 were selected using cluster random sampling technique.  The measuring instruments used are Student Life-Stress Inventory (SLSI) from Gadzella, Connor-Davidson Scale (CD-RISC) from Connor & Davidson, and Online Student Engagement (OSE) from Dixson.  Based on the linear regression analysis test, there is an positive effect of resilience on student engagement with R2 = 29.1% (β=-.54; p<.05).
