Hubungan Antara Persepsi Parental Mediation dengan Adiksi Smartphone pada Anak Usia 11-12 Tahun

Abstract


Abstract. Addiction in children can be related to children's perceptions of the role of their parents in responding to children’s smartphone use. The purpose of this study was to obtain empirical data on how closely the correlation between perceptions of parental mediation and smartphone addiction in children aged 11-12 years old. The method used is the correlational method with a total subject 97 children aged 11-12 years old, using a smartphone regularly, and lived in Bandung. This study uses the Perceived Parental Media Mediation Scale developed by Valkenburg and the Digital Addiction Scale for Children developed by Griffiths. The research data is calculated using the Spearman Rank correlation analysis technique and shows the strength of the relationship is -0.572, it shows that the correlations is strong enough with negative correlation, if parental mediation increases, smartphone addiction will decrease. The correlation significance value is 0.003, there is a correlation between the two variables and the study is calculated with a significance level of 10%. This research shows, parents who prohibit or strictly limit their children, will reduce the smarthphone addiction.

Abstrak. Adiksi pada anak dapat dikaitkan dengan persepsi anak terhadap peran orang tua dalam menanggapi penggunaan smartphone pada anak. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendapatkan data empiris mengenai seberapa erat hubungan antara persepsi parental mediation dengan adiksi smartphone pada anak usia 11-12 tahun. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode korelasional dengan jumlah subjek sebanyak 97 orang yang berusia 11-12 tahun, menggunakan smartphone sehari-harinya, dan bertempat tinggal di kota Bandung. Penelitian ini menggunakan alat ukur Perceived Parental Media Mediation Scale yang dikembangkan oleh Valkenburg dan Digital Addiction Scale for Children yang dikembangkan oleh Griffiths. Data penelitian dihitung menggunakan teknik analisis korelasi Rank Spearman dan menunjukkan kekuatan hubungan sebesar -0.572, artinya kekuatan hubungan cukup kuat dengan arah hubungan negatif, sehingga apabila parental mediation mengalami peningkatan maka adiksi smartphone akan mengalami penurunan. Nilai signifikansi korelasi sebesar 0.003, terdapat hubungan antara kedua variabel penelitian dan penelitian dihitung dengan taraf signifikansi sebesar 10%. Hasil menunjukkan, orangtua yang melarang atau membatasi dengan tegas akan menurunkan perilaku adiksi pada anak.
