Hubungan Pet Attachment dengan Psychological Well-Being pada Pemelihara Kucing Kota Bandung

Abstract


Abstract. Raising cats is something that human have often done since a long time ago. Human-cat relationship will be formed when raising a cat, and then it called pet attachment. Two patterns of pet attachment are pet attachment security and pet attachment insecurity. Raising cat can give some benefits for the owners, e.g. the raising of psychological well-being level. This research is to find the relationship between pet attachment pattern and psychological well-being level in Bandung cat owners. The subjects are individuals who raising at least one cat, Indonesian citizenship, living in Bandung, and above 17 years old. This research have 163 samples, determined by purposive sampling technique and Lemeshow formula. Measuring instruments in this research are: Pet Attachment Questionnaire (PAQ) from Zilcha-mano et al. (2011), adapted to Indonesian by writer; and Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS) from Ryff (1989), adapted to Indonesian by Engger (2015). There is a weak relationship between pet attachment and psychological well-being. Generally, Bandung cat owners have pet attachment security and high psychological well-being. Suggested for the next research is to find and analyze the factors that can influence the pattern of pet attachment, level of psychological well-being, and/or the relationship between these two variables.

Abstrak. Memelihara kucing adalah hal yang sudah sering dilakukan manusia sejak dahulu. Dalam pemeliharaan kucing, terbentuk hubungan antara manusia dengan kucing peliharaan, yang kemudian disebut dengan pet attachment. Terdapat dua pola pet attachment: pet attachment security dan pet attachment insecurity. Pemeliharaan kucing memiliki beberapa manfaat bagi pemeliharanya, seperti lebih tingginya tingkat psychological well-being. Penelitian ini meneliti hubungan antara pola pet attachment dengan tingkat psychological well-being pada pemelihara kucing Kota Bandung. Subjek penelitian ini adalah individu yang memelihara minimal satu kucing, berkewarganegaraan Indonesia, tinggal di Kota Bandung, dan berusia 17 tahun ke atas. Sampel penelitian ini sebanyak 163 orang yang ditentukan melalui teknik purposive sampling dan rumus Lemeshow. Alat ukur yang digunakan adalah Pet Attachment Questionaire (PAQ) dari Zilcha-Mano et al (2011) yang diadaptasi sendiri oleh penulis ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia dan Psychological Well-Being Scale (PWBS) dari Ryff (1989) yang sudah diadaptasi ke dalam Bahasa Indonesia oleh Engger (2015). Terdapat hubungan yang lemah antara pet attachment dengan psychological well-being. Pada umumnya, pemelihara kucing di Kota Bandung memiliki pola pet attachment security dan tingkat psychological well-being yang tinggi. Bagi peneliti selanjutnya disarankan untuk mencari dan menganalisis faktor-faktor yang dapat mempengaruhi pola pet attachment, tingkat psychological well-being, dan/atau hubungan antara kedua variabel ini.
