Abstract

Abstract. Instagram social media is one of the social media that is very popular among early adult women. Early adult women who have a negative body image show body dissatisfaction, which can cause social barriers, low self-esteem and cause anxiety in their social environment. Activities in using Instagram are used by early adult women to build their presentations. The acceptance of a positive response from the use of Instagram social media allows early adult women to experience addiction. The purpose of this study was to obtain empirical data regarding the closeness of the relationship between body dissatisfaction and Instagram social media addiction in early adult women in Bandung. The research method used is correlational using purposive sampling technique, obtained a sample of 214 early adult women who are indicated to have experienced Instagram social media addiction. The measuring instrument used is Multiple Body-Self Related Quessionare Appearance Scales (MBSRQ-AS) from Cash, et al. (2002) to measure body dissatisfaction and the Bergen Social Media Addiction Scale (BSMAS) from Andreassen, et al. (2016) to measure Instagram social media addiction. The statistical analysis technique used is Rank Spearman. The results of this study obtained a correlation value of 0.282 and a value of p = 0.000 (p <0.05), indicating a positive and significant relationship between body dissatisfaction and Instagram social media addiction in early adult women in Bandung.
