Pengaruh Childhood Maltreatment terhadap Self-Esteem pada Korban Kekerasan dalam Rumah Tangga

Abstract


Abstract. Childhood maltreatment could have short-term and long-term impacts. One psychological aspect that would be affected is self-esteem, which refers to one’s positive or negative attitude toward oneself globally. One that ever experiences childhood maltreatment would have problems in sensing their self-worth. Forms of childhood maltreatment are emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional neglect, and physical neglect. Individuals that have maltreatment experiences in childhood would form perceptions that they are worthless and consider the violence they receive is normal. These perceptions would last until adulthood and could causing them stuck in another abusive relationship. Aim of this study is to find out how much childhood maltreatment influences self-esteem in intimate partner violence victims. Instruments used are Bernstein Childhood Trauma Questionnaire-Short Forms and Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Analysis was carried out on data from 22 respondents to intimate partner violence victims in Bandung. Sampling was done with non-probability sampling snowball method and analysis was done with linear regression. There is no evidence in childhood maltreatment influencing self-esteem (0,136). Childhood maltreatment form that significantly influences self-esteem is sexual abuse (0,040).

Abstrak. Childhood maltreatment atau perlakuan buruk dimasa kanak-kanak dapat memberikan dampak jangka panjang maupun jangka pendek bagi korbannya. Salah satu aspek yang terdampak adalah self-esteem atau bagaimana korban memandang dirinya secara global. Individu yang sejak kecil menerima kekerasan secara fisik ataupun verbal akan memiliki masalah dalam merasakan keberhargaan dirinya. Bentuk-bentuk childhood maltreatment yaitu kekerasan emosional, kekerasan fisik, kekerasan seksual, penelantaran fisik, dan penelantaran emosional. Korban yang mengalami childhood maltreatment dapat membentuk pemahaman bahwa dirinya tidak berharga, dan menganggap kekerasan yang diterimanya merupakan hal yang wajar. Pemahaman ini dapat berlanjut hingga dewasa, menyebabkan ia terjebak dalam kekerasan berikutnya yaitu kekerasan dalam rumah tangga. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengetahui seberapa besar pengaruh childhood maltreatment terhadap self-esteem. Alat ukur yang digunakan untuk mengukur childhood maltreatment yaitu Childhood Trauma Questionnaire dari Bernstein & Fink yang mengukur 5 bentuk maltreatment, sedangkan alat ukur self-esteem adalah Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale.  Subjek penelitian berjumlah 22 orang korban KDRT di Kota Bandung dan Kabupaten Bandung. Pengambilan sampel dengan metode non-probability sampling secara snowball. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif kausalitas non eksperimental dengan regresi linear. Hasil yang didapat yaitu tidak terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan childhood maltreatment terhadap self-esteem (0,136). Aspek dalam childhood maltreatment yang memiliki pengaruh signifikan adalah kekerasan seksual (0,040).
