Hubungan Fear of Missing Out dengan Adiksi Twitter pada Fans Kingdom X1

Abstract


Abstract. Twitter is the second most widely accessed social media by teenagers in Indonesia (Survey hootsuite, 2020). Studies show that teens are prone to social media addiction. Fear of missing out (FoMO) is one of the strongest predictors to show that a person experiences twitter addiction. The pre-survey results showed that Korean Pop music lovers of  X1’s fans kingdom  experience a twitter addiction tendency, in that they exhibited preoccupation, withdrawal, persistence, escape, problems and conflicts. They also tended to experience fear of missing out, in that they had unfulfilled need of competence and need for relatedness. The purpose of this study was to determine how strong it was the relationship between fear of missing out and the twitter addiction among the X1’s fans kingdom boy groupin Bandung City. The method used was quantitative employing population study sampling technique which involved a total of 185 respondents recruited from the members of the X1’s fans kingdom in Bandung. The measuring instruments used were the Fear of Missing Out Scale from Pryzblyski et., Al and Social Media Disorder from Lemmens et., Al. The analysis technique used was the Spearman Correlation Test. The result showed that there was a significant relationship of 0.000 <0.005 with a positive direction of 0.275 between the fear of missing out (FoMO) and twitter addiction of X1’s fans kingdom.

Abstrak. Twitter adalah media sosial terbanyak kedua yang banyak diakses dikalangan remaja di Indonesia (Survey hootsuite, 2020). Banyak penelitian menunjukan bahwa remaja rentan mengalami adiksi media sosial. Fear of missing out (FoMO) menjadi salah satu prediktor terkuat penyebab seseorang mengalami adiksi twitter. Hasil pra-survey menunjukan fans penyuka musik Korean Pop (Kpopers) dari fans kingdom X1 mengalami kecenderungan adiksi twitter yakni adanya preoccupation, withdrawl, persistence, escape, problem dan conflict. Mereka juga menunjukan kecenderungan mengalami fear of missing out yakni need of competence dan need for relatedness yang tidak terpenuhi. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui seberapa kuat hubungan antara fear of missing out dengan adiksi twitter pada fans kingdom boy group X1 di Kota Bandung. Metode yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan teknik sampling studi populasi dengan jumlah responden sebanyak 185 orang yang merupakan anggota membership fans kingdom X1 Kota Bandung. Alat ukur yang digunakan adalah Fear of missing out Scale dari Pryzblyski et.,al dan Social Media Disorder dari Lemmens et.,al. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah Uji Korelasi Spearman. Hasil penelitian menunjukan terdapat hubungan yang signifikan sebesar  0,000 < 0,005 dengan arah yang positif sebesar 0,275 antara fear of missing out (FoMO) dengan adiksi twitter pada fans kingdom X1.
