Studi tentang Adiksi Media Sosial dan Student Engagement pada Siswa SMP “X†Kota Bandung

Abstract


Abstract. One active user of social media is students. Of course this use can provide various impacts in academic life. While the negative impacts found in the field, "X" Middle School students use social media until late at night so that it is not optimal in the learning process. The purpose of this study is to obtain data on social media addiction with student management in "X" Junior High School in Bandung. This research is a quantitative descriptive study method. Social media addiction measurement tools adapt the Social Media Scale (SMD) from Lemmens et al. (2016) and Student Engagement using the Student Engagement Scale (SES) from Dr. Ugur Dogan University of Bartin (2014). The subjects of this study were 350 student "X" junior high school Bandung. Based on the results of data processing, it is obtained a picture of social media addiction as many as 243 (69.4%) students experience social media addiction and 107 (30.6%) students do not experience social media addiction, then a picture of student engagement is obtained as much as 282 (80.6%) students have low student engagement and (19.4%) students have high student engagement. KEYWORDS: Social Media Addiction, Student Engagement, Middle School Students

 

Abstrak. Salah satu pengguna aktif media sosial adalah pelajar. Tentunya penggunaan tersebut dapat memberikan berbagai dampak dalam kehidupan akademiknya. Sedangkan dampak negatif yang ditemukan di lapangan, siswa SMP “X†menggunakan sosial media sampai larut malam sehingga tidak maksimal dalam proses belajar. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah memperoleh gambaran data mengenai adiksi media sosial dengan student enagement pada siswa SMP "X" Kota Bandung. Penelitian ini merupakan metode studi deskriptif kuantitatif. Alat ukur adiksi media sosial mengadaptasi Sosial Media Scale (SMD) dari Lemmens dkk, (2016) dan Student Engagement menggunakan Student Engagement Scale (SES) dari Dr. Ugur Dogan Universitas Bartin (2014). Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa SMP "X" Kota Bandung sebanyak 350 orang. Berdasarkan hasil pengolahan data diperoleh gambaran adiksi media sosial sebanyak 243 (69,4%) siswa mengalami adiksi media sosial dan 107 (30,6%) siswa tidak mengalami adiksi media sosial, selanjutnya didapatkan gambaran student engagement sebanyak 282 (80,6%) siswa memiliki student engagement yang rendah dan (19,4%) siswa memiliki student engagement yang tinggi.
