Studi tentang Vocational Identity Status dan Student Engagement pada Siswa Jurusan Perhotelan SMK Negeri “X†Bandung

Abstract


Abstract. Vocational high school students show less participation in the class, such as feel bored easily, skip the class, not finish the task, and get a bad score on the test. Researchers found the phenomenon that students of the "X" Vocational High School in Bandung haven’t known the abilities and the strengths they have, the working zone which they would face, and felt that the chosen major did not fit in their expectations. Although, the specific aim of Vocational Schools is to prepare students to be ready to face working life. The purpose of this study is to obtain empirical data about how close the relation of vocational identity status with student engagement in hospitality students at "X" Vocational School Bandung. This research use quantitative descriptive methods. Researchers used the Vocational Identity Status measurement adapted from the Vocational Identity Scale (Melgosa, 1987) and the Student Engagement scale which was adapted from the Student Engagement Scale (Doğan, 2014). The study took the form of a population study with 111 students. The results showed a description of vocational identity status, namely students belonging to the achievement status of 31 students (27.92%), a moratorium on status of 49 students (44.14%), foreclosure status of 17 students (15.31%), and diffusion status of 14 students (12.61%). While the description of high student engagement 63 students (56.75%), and 48 students (43.24%) had low student engagement.

Abstrak. Siswa SMK menunjukkan keterlibatan di kelas yang kurang, seperti mudah merasa bosan, bolos, tidak mengerjakan tugas, dan nilai yang buruk. Peneliti menemukan fenomena bahwa siswa SMKN “X†Bandung belum mengenal kemampuan dan kelebihan yang dimiliki, lingkungan pekerjaan yang akan dihadapi, serta merasa jurusan yang dipilih tidak sesuai harapan mereka. Padahal tujuan SMK adalah menyiapkan siswa agar siap menghadapi dunia pekerjaan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah memperoleh gambaran mengenai vocational identity status dan student engagement pada siswa jurusan perhotelan SMK Negeri “X†Bandung. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kuantitatif. Peneliti menggunakan alat ukur Vocational Identity Status yang diadaptasi dari Vocational Identity Scale (Melgosa, 1987) dan skala Student Engagement yang diadaptasi dari Student Engagement Scale (Doğan, 2014). Penelitian berbentuk studi populasi dengan jumlah subjek 111 siswa. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan gambaran vocational identity status, yaitu siswa yang tergolong achievement status sebanyak 31 siswa (27,92%), moratorium status sebanyak 49 siswa (44,14%), foreclosure status sebanyak 17 siswa (15,31%), dan diffusion status sebanyak 14 siswa (12,61%). Sedangkan gambaran student engagement tinggi sebanyak 63 siswa (56,75%), dan 48 siswa (43,24%) memiliki  student engagement rendah.
