Hubungan Antara School Climate dengan Student Engagement Siswa Atlet Basket SMAN 9 Bandung

Abstract


Abstract. Basketball athlete students enter through the school by waiving academic requirements / NEM. In the process, students of basketball athletes must be able to maintain their achievements as champions in the basketball competition. However, the academic demands that must be met are not differentiated from regular students. With limited time and energy to carry out these two demands, students of SMAN 9 Bandung basketball athletes still want to try to fulfill their academic demands well. Students try to pursue material by borrowing notes on friends, using nighttime breaks for private lessons, and returning to school when the dispensation is complete before school time is over. The purpose of this study was to obtain empirical data about the description of the closeness of the relationship between school climate and student engagement in the academic field at students of basketball athletes at SMAN 9 Bandung. The method used is correlational analysis using Spearman rank correlation analysis techniques. The measuring instrument used is a questionnaire adapted from The National School Climate Council and Jennifer Fredricks. The results showed a positive correlation of 0.641 which means there is a rather close relationship between school climate and student engagement.

Abstrak. Siswa atlet basket masuk melalui jalur prestasi dengan mengesampingkan syarat akademik/NEM. Dalam prosesnya siswa atlet basket harus mampu mempertahankan prestasi nya sebagai juara dalam ajang perlombaan basket. Meskipun demikian, tuntutan akademik yang harus dipenuhi tidak dibedakan dengan siswa reguler. Dengan keterbatasan waktu dan tenaga yang dimiliki untuk menjalankan kedua tuntutan tersebut, siswa atlet basket SMAN 9 Bandung tetap mau berusaha untuk memenuhi tuntutan akademiknya dengan baik. Siswa berusaha mengejar materi dengan meminjam catatan pada teman, menggunakan jam istirahat malam hari untuk les privat, dan kembali ke sekolah ketika dispensasi selesai sebelum pulang sekolah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memperoleh data empiric mengenai gambaran keeratan hubungan antara school climate dengan student engagement dalam bidang akademik pada siswa atlet basket SMAN 9 Bandung. Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis korelasional menggunakan teknik analisis korelasi rank Spearman. Alat ukur yang digunakan berupa kuesioner yang diadaptasi dari The National School Climate Council dan Jennifer Fredricks. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan korelasi positif sebesar 0,641 yang artinya terdapat hubungan agak erat antara school climate dengan student engagement.
