Abstract

Abstrak. PT Dalam waktu 5 tahun kebelakang, industri pertambangan batubara menurun ini berdampak pada seluruh indutri pertambangan batubara terpaksa untuk berhenti sejenak pada proses penambangan batubara sampai harga batubaranya kembali meningkat. Perlunya pengkajian tentang mengapa harga batubara dipasarnya menurun, apakah mungkin dari kualitas batubaranya tersebut sehingga peminatnya menurun. Apa karena tambang batubara Indonesia umumnya berpotensi pada batubara pringkat rendah seperti lignit yang tingkat swabakarnya tinggi serta nilai kalori rendah. Oleh karena itu perlu dilakukan cara bagaimana batubara lignit dapat bersaing dengan batubara kualitas tinggi, diciptakan suatu metode upgrading batubra guna untuk meningkatkan nilai kalor dan menurunkan kadar airnya, salah satunya ialah metode evaporasi dan tar coating. Conto yang digunakan berasal dari Sorong dan Baturona dan di uji di laboratorium batubara di Puslitbang tekMIRA. Pada conto dilakukan pengecilan ukuran sampai berukuran 3 mesh kemudian ditambahkan tar pada batubara tersebut. Penambahan tar sebagai penutup permukaan pori-pori batubara agar tertutup sehingga kadar airnya tidak akan masuk kembali. Adapun variasi suhu yang digunakan yaitu suhu 100°C, 150°C, dan 200°C. Untuk variasi pemanasan selama 2 jam dan 4 jam. Selain ukuran sample 3 mesh, disiapkan juga sample berukuran 200 mesh. Sample tersebut digunakan untuk kebutuhan pengujian uji prosimat meliputi pengujian kadar air lembab dan nilai kalor. Sebelumnya juga dicari nilai kadar air lembab harian dengan conto berukuran 3 mesh.
