The Educational Implications of Surah An-Nur Verses 27-29 on the Adab of Visiting

Abstract


Islam strictly regulates the obligation to respect the rights of others; one of them is right in visit. This is a key to the creation of kindness between guests and homeowners. The purpose of this study is to (1) know the mufassir opinion about the contents of Surah An-Nur verses 27-29; (2) to know the essence contained in that verses; (3) to know the opinion of experts on etiquette visit; and (4) the implications of the verses. This research used descriptive-analytic method. Data collection technique includes the study of literature. The work was undertaken by reviewing a variety of interpretations and books related to the research problem. The study provides an overview of the content of the Holy Quran, Surah An-Nur Verses 27-29, namely that a Muslim should perform a visit as taught by Allah and His Messenger. (1) A Muslim who would visit should ask permission from the host in accordance with ethical norms and the prevailing culture in the area. (2) In the visit, a Muslim should be able to maintain the honor and rights of the homeowner. The educational implications contained in the verses include several things. (1) A Muslim should respect the rights of other Muslims, asking for permission when a visit or entering someone else's home. (2) A Muslim should practice the ethics and norms in the visit. (3) A Muslim must be patient in waiting for a reply asking permission and homeowners. (4) A Muslim must respect the privacy of others. (5) A Muslim does not visit more than three days, because it would interfere with the comfort of homeowners. (6) A Muslim when guest arrival should fulfill the rights of guests that include hospitality, entertainment, and so forth.
