Improvement of Production Plan to Minimize Cost of Overtime in the Assembly Process (A Case Study in PT. X)

Abstract


Production planning is very important for a company to meet demands of consumers. PT. X is a company engaged in footwear industry. Their production planning is not good shown by not doing forecasting and raw planning capacity. During this time, the company has always imposed overtime. Application of overtime hours for whole process is equal despite each production process capacity is unique. This led to implementation of overtime in each process, although certain processes do not require overtime. Overtime that is not adapted to needs results large fee. Based on the phenomenon, the study aims to carry out the planning of the capacity needed by the company to optimize the available capacity. The result of this study indicates that the application of overtime performed by good production planning results in lower costs. Based on the calculation, the average cost of overtime per month currently is Rp1.641.901.127,-. The result of this study shows a total cost of Rp. 1413252711,-. Therefore, the company can save 13.93% or Rp.228.648.416,- of overtime cost currently.
