Formulasi Sediaan Sampo Antiketombe Minyak Atsiri Kulit Batang Kayu Manis (Cinnamomum burmanii Nees ex BI.) dan Uji Aktivitas Antijamur Candida Albicans secara In Vitro

Abstract


Abstract. Dandruff is a condition that is characterized by exessive growth of scalp cells with or without any inflammation. Cinnamaldehyde compounds in cinnamon bark essential oil are known to have antifungal activity against Candida albicans, one of the microorganism that cause dandruff. The aim of this study are to obtain an appropriate formulation of anti-dandruff shampoo with cinnamon bark essential oil as the active compound, and to prove the antifungal activity of this anti-dandruff shampoo against Candida albicans. The selected formula contains as much as 3% cinnamon bark essential oil, 2.5% HPMC, 4% sodium lauryl sulfate, and 2% cocamidopropyl betaine. The formulation is then evaluated for it is physical properties and stability, an eye and skin irritation test is carried out on albino rabbits and it is antifungal activity against Candida albicans. Cinnamon bark essential oil is proven to have strong antifungal activity in concentration of 3% with inhibitory diameter of 39.17 mm. The anti-dandruff shampoo containing 3% cinnamon bark essential oil is physically stable based on the freeze thaw test, and meets the pharmaceutical requirements in the terms of organoleptic, homogenity, pH, foaming capacity, and viscosity. This shampoo is proven to have antifungal activity against Candida albicans with inhibitory diameter of 28.4 mm and proved to be safe, not irritating.

Abstrak. Ketombe merupakan keadaan dimana pertumbuhan sel kulit kepala berlebih tanpa adanya peradangan. Kandungan sinamaldehid dalam minyak atsiri kulit batang kayu manis berpotensi memiliki aktivitas antijamur terhadap Candida albicans. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan formulasi sediaan sampo antiketombe yang tepat dengan bahan berkhasiat minyak atsiri kulit batang kayu manis, serta mengetahui aktivitas antijamur sampo antiketombe minyak atsiri kulit batang kayu manis terhadap jamur Candida albicans. Sediaan sampo antiketombe minyak atsiri kulit batang kayu manis 3% diformulasikan dengan HPMC 2,5%, natrium lauril sulfat 4%, dan kokamidopropil betain 2%. Sediaan sampo antiketombe diuji sifat fisik, uji iritasi mata dan kulit terhadap kelinci albino dan aktivitas antijamur terhadap Candida albicans. Minyak atsiri kulit batang kayu manis memiliki aktivitas antijamur yang kuat yaitu pada konsentrasi 3% dengan diameter hambat 39,17 mm. Sediaan sampo antiketombe mengandung minyak atsiri kulit batang kayu manis 3% stabil secara fisik berdasarkan uji freeze thaw, serta memenuhi persyaratan farmasetika dalam hal uji organoleptis, homogenitas, pH, tinggi busa, viskositas. Sediaan sampo antiketombe mengandung minyak atsiri kulit batang kayu manis 3% memiliki aktivitas antijamur terhadap Candida albicans dengan diameter hambat sebesar 28,4 mm dan Sediaan sampo antiketombe minyak atsiri kulit batang kayu manis terbukti aman.
