Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC), which attacks the lungs and various other than lung organs called extra-pulmonary TB (EPTB). The most common manifestation of EPTB is TB lymphadenitis which is a process of inflammation of the lymph nodes due to MTBC activity. Some of the factors causing EPTB both originated from the MTBC host or the environment as the cause. The objectives of this study are to find out the characteristics of patients with lymph node tuberculousis by looking at the socio-demographic factors, the history of contact with tuberculous patients, the history of Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) immunization and the history of previous pulmonary or pulmonary tuberculosis. This study was an observational descriptive study conducted in March -June 2017 using total data of lymphadenitis patients examined by staining the acid fast bacilli (AFB) from biopsy of lymph node tissue in 2016 at laboratory of Al-Islam hospital Bandung. The results are 49 smear examination of lymph node biopsy from medical record, with age group as a whole 18 months-74 years, most at age 17-25 years 16 patients (32.7%), 34 female patients (69.4%), Negative AFB results in 25 patients (51%) and located in East Bandung are 41 patient (83.7%).
