Correlation between Body Mass Index and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference with Number of Erithrocyte among Reproductive’s Women whos is lived at River Banks in Urban Village Taman Sari Bandung

Abstract

Anemia is a condition when the number of erythrocytes, hemoglobin or hematocrit levels below normal limits. Anemia occurs in about a quarter of the world's population with 500 million of which occur in women of reproductive age. Anemia in general, caused by acute infection, hereditary blood diseases and lack of micronutrients. The prevalence of anemia in Indonesia is approximately 21.7% and 23.9% of which are in women. In Indonesia nutritional anemia is still commonly found. Nutritional status can be determined by measuring Body Mass Index (BMI) and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC). Anemia can be measured by knowing the number of erythrocytes. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between BMI and MUAC with the amount of erythrocytes in women of reproductive age who live on the river banks Urban Village Taman Sari Bandung. The research design was an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach, the number of samples was 75 people determined by simple random sampling technique. The analysis used Chi square test, with epi info 7 program. The results showed subjects had normal erythrocyte (93,30%), normal BMI (62.70%), and MUAC normal (89.30%). Statistical analysis of the association between BMI and anemia (p = 0,19 and p=0,60) and between MUAC and anemia (p = 0.82). In conclusion, there is no statistical significant correlation between IMT and LLA with abnormal level of  hematocrit.
