Abstract

Abstract: The human body consists of approximately 60% of water, the human brain can contain about 75% of water. Hydration is essential to human homeostasis and survival. Cognition is involved in everything we do, including observing, thinking, remembering, feeling emotions and controlling over our environment. When humans consume less water can cause fatigue, affect cognitive functions such as a decrease in short-term memory, alertness, and mood. This study was aimed to determine the relationship between the administration of mineral water with short-term memory in 5th grade children of Darul Hikam International School Bandung. This research method was experimental analytic with cross sectional approach. The determination of the samples was using probability sampling with the number of respondents based on inclusion criteria as many as 36 people. The study was conducted in May 2016. Short-term memory is tested by using the Digit Span test. This study used Statistics IBM software ver. 21 as data processing, with Wilcoxon test. The results showed that there were before the administration of mineral water there were 25 children who had the optimal memory and  there were 33 children with optimal memory after the administration of mineral water. Examination of short-term memory of the children before were given the mineral water which were not optimal was obtained as many as 11 children and became three children after given of  mineral water. The results demonstrated an association between the administration of mineral water with short-term memory in fifth grade elementary school children of Darul Hikam International School.
