Abstract

Abstract. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a non-communicable disease with an increasing incidence and mortality rate. About 25% of DM patients suffer from microvascular complications. Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1C) level is the main biomarker for preventing complications. The aims of this study is to analyze the relationship between HbA1C levels and microvascular complications in patients with type 2 DM. A systematic search was conducted using Springer Link, PubMed, and Science Direct following PRISMA and PICOS criteria. A total of 249 journal articles were identified and met the inclusion criteria and further a total of 16 articles were eligible. The majority of journals indicate that high HbA1c levels are associated with an increased incidence of microvascular complications. HbA1c levels are associated with the incidence of microvasular complications (nephropathy, neuropathy, and retinopathy) in patients with type 2 DM.
